There are plenty of trendy beauty treatments on the market that claim to restore your youth and reserve signs of aging. It seems there is always something new and exotic to snag your attention. The vampire facial or Vampire Facelift® is no exception. A few years ago the treatment was made popular by several A-list celebrities swearing by its’ success, and we want to share a little more information about the procedure with you.
WHERE DID THE NAME COME FROM?
We promise there are no vampires involved. However, your blood will be used to create injectables for your treatment.
WHAT IS A VAMPIRE FACELIFT®?
The treatment is targeted towards people who desire healthy rejuvenated skin without having to undergo lengthy treatments or surgery. It is generally an outpatient procedure without incisions and results can be experienced on the same day with benefits that can last up to six months or more.
A few vials of blood are drawn (typically from your arm) and then spun in a centrifuge, allowing the blood to separate into different components. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is then combined with dermal fillers and strategically injected into areas of your face that aid in reducing wrinkles, adding volume, and improving overall skin quality.
The cost can range anywhere from $1,200-$2,500 per treatment. Doctors recommend coming in for touch-ups every six months for continued benefits.
The term ‘facelift’ is used liberally as the facial promises to plum and tighten your skin. Surgical facelifts address both volume loss as well as wrinkles and skin laxity, seeking to both lift and reshape your face.
PRP? WHAT’S THAT?
PRP is an abbreviation for the term platelet-rich plasma which is used in these vampire facials. Platelets found in your blood aid in forming clots to stop bleeding, but also contain proteins to stimulate healing.
